I’m really happy to announce that Guzuguzu by Helge Lien Trio is nominated for the Norwegian “Grammy” – Spellemannprisen. This is a great honor for us! The winner will be announced on the 25th of February. http://spellemann.no/
Helge Lien Trio is standing at a crossroads! Almost 20 years have passed since the trio first came in to being in a stuffy cellar in Oslo. Since then we’ve played hundreds of concerts at home and abroad – from Canada in the west to Japan in the east. The trio has, among other things, released nine albums and been nominated for the Norwegian Grammy three times. In 2008 we were awarded the Grammy (Spellemann Prize) for the album Hello Troll.
Super bassist Frode Berg has been an invaluable part of the trio all these years, and has had enormous influence on the project’s sound and character with his large, clear bass sound and vital creative power. On November 11th Frode is on stage with the trio for the last time. This takes place at the London Jazz Festival where the trio plays with the Polish violinist Adam Baldych. The concert will mark the end of a long and extremely rewarding collaboration. Frode will focus on his own new projects, as well as continuing the significant job as a bassist in Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. We can all enjoy his exceptional musicality and versitality in the years to come, colleagues and audiences alike.
In comes Mats Eilertsen, also a dream of a musician whose tone and musicality has captivated both audiences and fellow musicians for many years. He is known as a sought after and highly present bass player, a creative melodist and brilliant improvisor. Along with drummer Per Oddvar Johansen, the first concerts with the new trio will be held in February next year. Per Oddvar and I are very proud to have Mats on the team, and look forward to exploring new ground with him.

Mats Eilertsen ny bassist i Helge Lien Trio!

The duo album “Hummingbird” with Dobro player Knut Hem is now released in Norway. International release will be announced later. I’m very proud of this album! Dobro and piano is not the most common combination, but it sounds very nice. Mike Hartung at Propeller recordings have done a marvellous job recording it, and the C.Bechstein sounds brilliant too. Buy it at Bare Jazz in Oslo, or in your local CD store. Label: Ozella Music.
The new Helge Lien Trio album is ready to hit the world! We’ll celebrate with concerts in Tokyo, Oslo, Bergen and Bucuresti. Watch video: Helge Lien Trio – Jasmine
I’m off to Japan again, this time with Arild Andersen trio. Thomas Strønen plays the drums. Looking forward! See the tour dates in the LIVE section.

I’m extremely proud to announce that we will release a new album with Live & Lien this autumn, on Ozella Music. Release night: Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria, Oslo, Sept 15.
Watch out for news!
What an honor! The album “Bridges”, with Adam Baldych & Helge Lien Trio is voted as the best album of 2015 in the Polish magazine Jazz Forum! Congratulations also to Adam for being voted as violinist of the year, as well as a strong second place on the musician of the year-vote, only beaten by no other than Tomasz Stańko.
The double LP with the project “Østerdalsmusikk – 1975 | 2015”, led by trumpet player Torgrim Sollid, is nominated for Spellemannprisen (Norwegian “Grammy award”) in the Folk Music category. The original project is, in my opinion, nothing less than a groundbreaking part of Norwegian jazz history, and it has been a great honor to participate on the 2015 edition. If you can read Norwegian, check this link for some more info about it: http://bit.ly/osterdalsmusikk
The Spellemannprisen show takes place on January 30 in Oslo Spektrum, and is broadcasted live on NRK.
I’m immensely proud to participate on Per Oddvar Johansen’s debut album, in an inspirational trio setting with my good friend Torben Snekkestad on sax and reed trumpet. “Let’s Dance” will be released on Edition Records on March 25.
